After a career in retail banking, the arrival of my sons prompted a career change, I am delighted to have been able to be part of this great team, working hard to deliver childcare & education to children in SE25 & beyond.
I began my journey with Lullabys as a nursery practitioner, and have worked my way up to Deputy Manager. Working in childcare has always been a passion of mine since I was at school. Over the years my 3 children have attended the nursery. My oldest is just starting their 2nd year at university, my son is off to college, and my youngest is just starting out on her school journey.
I have had a 40+ career in childcare and hold a foundation degree in Early Years Childhood & Education. I retired from full time management in 2014 and now support the team to deliver outstanding childcare & education, and support to continue to develop their practise.
My journey into teaching in the early years, started in my late teens, when as a qualified swimming teacher I started teaching young children to swim. I soon realised that working with children was something I wanted to pursue. Ten years on and I am in my 5th year as a qualified teacher. I consider it a privilege to be able to support and enhance children’s learning. Knowing when they leave the children are ready for the next steps in their learning journey.
No two days are the same at the nursery, and certainly, supporting the children by maintaining the environment makes the day fly by. Helping the children with their gardening and bug hotels are always good fun and watching the children grow is very rewarding.
Along with my years working in early years I have gained years of experience bringing up my 4 children, two boys & two girls. I enjoy studying and last year graduated with a BSC in health & social care. You will mostly find me working in the toddler room, we have an amazing time together, where I particularly like all the art & design activities the children take part in.
I actually first came to the nursery to complete my work experience from school. This work experience shaped my decision to forge a career in Early Years Education. I am very local to the nursery and enjoy meeting the children when we are all out and about.
Maria has recently graduated with top marks in her Level 3 Diploma in childcare & education. Maria initially came as a student with Croydon College. Over the last two years she has built strong relationships with the staff and children and we are delighted that she joins us as a level 3. Maria is also continuing her education and will also be studying psychology at university in London.
